You can add a
battery as a power source to your current
sump pump. Usually, the
battery is mounted on a wall and connected to the
sump pump. However,
you can also get a whole new unit, a new
battery backup pump in addition to your
existing sump pump.

Use a deep-cycle lead-acid battery with a backup sump pump. The ampere-hour (AH) rating determines the hours of protection. Purchase a battery with an AH rating near the maximum recommended by the backup sump pump manufacturer. Typically, it will be around 120 AH.
