battery sizes. The key distinction is that the
18650 is specifically a size for a rechargeable lithium-ion
battery while
AA can be zinc-carbon,
alkaline, nickel-cadmium, nickel-metal hydride (NiMH), or even lithium-ion among others.

Keep in mind CR123 batteries are typically cheaper than rechargeable 18650's, but two CR123's equals one 18650. There are also some rechargeable CR123 varieties if you desire.
